Review of Ambient-Art festival 2010
The venue of the 1st night Ambient-Art festival 2010 was Livestage, a very nice place in the city of Innsbruck and a good example of how a venue should look like. The program existed of a mixture of great body and live painting acts, a mime performance and solo performances of Miloopa, EK-Lounge, Andre Muller, Markus Reuter and myself. My last live performance was in May 2010 and although I had prepared the festival very well, I could feel it was a long time ago and it didn’t went as I planned. A muddy and mono monitoring system made it very difficult, I could not hear the overtones which are an essential part of the tape delay sounds I often use. I need to spend more time on a sound-check in the future! Anyway, the good response on the 2nd part of the performance was one of the positive things of the evening. Second, the stage was fantastic: just look at the pictures and you know what I mean. A big compliment for EK-Lounge, they filled the gaps between all the performances with a mixture of relaxed ambient/experimental music.
The 2nd night of the festival was at Kulturlabor Stromboli in Hall (Tirol), 15 kilometers from Innsbruck. A nice venue, smaller than Livestage, but more intimite, the way I like it. The difficulty with playing ambient music live is that you need to find the flow, make sure you keep it interesting enough and not getting monotone. Compared to the 1st night, my performance went much better. Not perfect but it was definitely in the right direction.
If someone could have won the price of best performer, it should have been Markus Reuter imo. Amazing what kind of sounds he’s able to produce with his guitar and his laptop based looping system. The price for the best selling artist of the festival definitely is Andre Muller. Last but not least, it’s always a surprise how things are organised if you travel to an unknown place and festival. But Harry Triendl has done a great job, I can’t say anything bad about the whole weekend regarding the organisation, the food and the whole atmosphere. Thanks Harry, you did an excellent job!
We can add this festival to history now, and with a positive feeling. Next gigs: Feb-Mar-Apr 2011, stay tuned.
